Workshop „Scaling Up Innovations to Market and Job Creation in the Blue Economy”, Tutrakan, Bulgaria
In Tutrakan, Bulgaria, the international workshop “Scaling Up Innovations to Market and Job Creation in the Blue Economy” was held, where sustainable business models and solutions for leveraging innovations in support of the blue economy and the creation of green jobs were presented, with a focus on the Lower Danube region.
GAB 5 - Tulcea
The fifth General Assembly of the Danube Wetlands Restoration (DAWetRest) project, held in Tulcea, brought together European partners to review the progress of restoration activities in the demonstration sites, the involvement of local communities, and the challenges encountered during the first two years of implementation. Long-term objectives were established, future actions were planned, and context-specific solutions were discussed, with an emphasis on cross-sector collaboration and strengthening the resilience of river ecosystems.
Workshop - protecting salty lakes and preserving natural habitats, Techirghiol
Organized by INCDDD Tulcea, the workshop was dedicated to the impact of soil drought on impoverished lakes and the associated risks of loss of natural habitats, biodiversity and therapeutic muds. The event gathered about 40 representatives of local, regional and national authorities, SMEs, NGOs, research institutes and partners from Bulgaria within the project DAnube WETlands RESToration. Mission Ocean & Waters Forum, Brussels
As an officially accredited entity for the mission "Restore our Ocean & Waters by 2030", Geostud promoted its own expertise and the DAnube WETlands RESToration project, focused on wetland restoration and biodiversity protection along the Danube.
GAB 4, Beja, Portugal
The fourth meeting of project partners included working sessions, strategic discussions, as well as a field visit to local wetland restoration sites, giving participants the opportunity to observe first-hand the challenges and solutions implemented in the local context.
Workshop on Nature Based Solutions (NBS) and policy recommendations for the Danube and Black Sea region, Burgas
During the workshop, participants analyzed and discussed the tools developed within the DaWetRest project, including:
• methodology for the implementation of Nature Based Solutions (NBS)
• the catalog of good practices for freshwater restoration near the demonstration site in Burgas
• policy recommendations for the promotion of NBS in the Danube and Black Sea regions.
GAB3 - June 12-14, 2024, Osijek, Croatia
GAB3 kicked off with a field trip to the Middle Danube Demo Site to assess in detail the progress made in the first year of the DaWetRest project. Discussions focused on three main aspects: analyzing the results achieved so far, identifying and addressing the challenges encountered, and developing strategies for the next stages of the project
Deltas and Wetlands Symposium 31st edition , Tulcea
The presentation given at the symposium addressed solutions for decarbonizing the Danube Delta, protecting biodiversity and sustainable development of wetlands, in correlation with the DaWetRest project objectives.
Initiatives from 3D - Decarbonizing Danube Delta and the Living Lab organized by the EU project EcoDaLLi with a focus on the Lower Danube were presented.
Participation facilitated the exchange of scientific expertise and the initiation of new partnerships in the field of natural resources and socio-economic issues.
Danube Delta Synergies and Needs identification workshop, Tulcea
The Danube Delta Synergies and Needs Identification Workshop brought together international partners to discuss conservation efforts in the Danube River and Delta. This significant event highlighted the European Mission Ocean and Waters to 2030 projects, such as DAnube WETlands RESToration , Danube4all, EcoDaLLi Project and Nevermore, each aimed at addressing the unique environmental challenges of this crucial hotspot of European biodiversity. Through collaborative discussions, the workshop emphasized the importance of synergy in conservation strategies, with the aim of promoting sustainable development and protecting the Danube's rich ecosystem for future generations.

The DaWetRest GAB2 reviewed the progress of the first six months of the project, key achievements, challenges and next steps. A significant focus was placed on the Ocean Mission and the Danube Lighthouse, where discussions addressed ongoing activities and policy alignment with collaborative opportunities. In addition, dedicated sessions explored demonstration projects, procedural guidelines and future deliverables, laying the groundwork for the next phase of implementation.
COP28, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The DaWetRest project was presented at COP28, with Geostud advocating the importance and the need to accelerate the restoration of the Danube basin wetlands and freshwater ecosystems in Europe.
GAB1, Ruse, Bulgaria
GAB 1 was the opening meeting of the European project, an initiative that aims to develop and implement concrete solutions at the level of the Danube and Black Sea basins to restore the balance of wetland and coastal ecosystems.
Delta and Wetlands Symposium, 30th edition, Tulcea
The symposium addressed topics of great importance, such as the Green Deal Challenges for the decarbonization of the economic sectors in the Danube Delta area, the objective of the 3D Initiative, the measures for the protection and conservation of Natura 2000 Sites, Restore our Water and Ocean through the EcoDaLLi project in the Danube and Black Sea, as well as new research approaches to combating the effects of climate change.
